National Ecological Observatory Network

NEON Information Management Workshop

Final Report from the Workshop Available

Report from the Sixth Workshop on the Development of a National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON): Information Management.

Workshop Overview

The National Science Foundation has proposed a National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), the goal of which is to create a network of geographically distributed, shared-use research platforms that contain state-of-the-art infrastructure for field biology research. A major component of this program will be related to the networking data within and between sites. Pending final approval and funding, the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS) will be hosting the sixth NEON workshop on information management for NEON in Santa Barbara September 16-17, 2002. Five individuals involved in the final report preparation will stay an extra day.

The agenda covers two days for the workshop and a day of report writing for the breakout group coordinators.

Topics to be covered include:

A series of break-out groups will discuss each of these topical areas in detail and make recommendations about the information management responsibilities for the observatories and the information management role of a proposed NEON Coordinating Office.
