Habitat Conservation Planning for Endangered Species

Abstract:
Given the increasing importance of HCPs and in the light of ongoing Congressional debates, the American Institute of Biological Sciences (AIBS) and the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis are sponsoring research to 1) synthesize available information on existing HCPs, 2) conduct a detailed analysis of a representative set of HCPs to evaluate their likely effectiveness as a tool for conserving endangered species and habitats, and 3) identify ecological theory and methods that can be applied to strengthen the design, management and monitoring of HCP areas.
