Every two months, Essential Science Indicators [4] lists a new crop of what it calls hot papers. They are selected by virtue of being cited among the top 0.1% of science papers in a current bimonthly period. This paper was the most frequently cited paper in the environment and ecology category.

“Our testing of 16 modeling methods with diverse species data from six regions around the globe provides some clear guidance on which modeling methods perform best.”
