John Phillips

British paleontologist. Phillips' identifications of fossils came into play in the debates among Murchison, Sedgwick, and de la Beche. Phillips advocated the three-way division of the Phanerozoic (Paleozoic, Mesozoic, and Cenozoic) that eventually became universally accepted.
