Robert Ridgway

American ornithologist. Protege of Baird and first full-time curator of ornithology at the U.S. National Museum. Ridgway published several widely-used checklists of North American birds in the 1870s and served alongside his rival Coues on the American Ornithologists' Union committee that published a consensus version in 1886.
