I am a community ecologist interested in the factors affecting and controlling species diversity within and among communities through time. I study the individual responses of Pleistocene mammals to glaciation and the resulting effects on community structure and dynamics. In addition, I am comparing and contrasting the macroecological patterns of present day mammals with the patterns generated by Pleistocene mammals during the last 40,000 years (abstract). I am particularly interested in the role of body size in structuring mammal communities during the considerable turnover that occurred during glaciation.
