Now, one of the most important results from this plot is the concept of the diffusional shell. Here, it is arbitrarily defined as the distance to which the cell impacts the bulk surrounding nutrient concentration by greater than 10% of the far-field concentration. Using this definition, the radius of the diffusional shell is always equal to 10 cell radii.
Also, you can see from the formula that the total uptake (flux summed over the entire cell surface), is proportional to the cell radius.
