Jonathan B. Shurin

is a post doctoral fellow at the
National Center
for Ecological Analysis
and Synthesis

I study the causes and consequences of geographic variation in species diversity, composition and trophic
structure in freshwater ecosystems.  I am particularly interested in comparing the roles of local processes,
such as physical factors and species interactions, vs. regional processes like dispersal.

I did my Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago with Mathew Leibold.

Most of my field work was done in Michigan at W.K. Kellogg Biological Station's  Pond Lab site.

Starting in summer 2003, I will be faculty in the Zoology Department at the University of British Columbia.
