I am interested in how plant communities have responded to past climate changes and the feedbacks between the vegetation and atmosphere.  By studying vegetational responses to the complex climate changes that occurred during the most recent deglaciation, I hope to help assess how plant communities may respond to future climate change.  At NCEAS, I am working upon estimates of the total amount of carbon sequestered in North American ecosystems since the last glacial maximum, and in the process am integrating paleoecological datasets with terrestrial biogeochemical models (more).  I started at NCEAS in September, 1999, after finishing my doctoral studies at the Department of Geological Sciences at Brown University.
