Ecological informatics, or ecoinformatics, is the development and application of computer technologies relevant to the management of ecological data and information. It is an emerging discipline focusing upon research and development of structures and algorithms that improve communication, understanding, and management of ecological information. Ecoinformatics focuses on the development of software tools to manipulate, store, distribute, and display ecological information.

The objective of ecoinformatics is to integrate data, knowledge, and methods necessary to provide ecological data to a scientific or policy-making process.
