Grafton Elliot Smith

Australian anatomist and paleoanthropologist who spent his professional career in Britain. Along with Keith and Woodward, Elliot Smith enthusiastically accepted the validity of Piltdown man. He was a leading popularizer of Davidson Black's Peking man fossils, and an opponent of his former assistant Ray Dart's theory that the Taung child represented a distant human ancestor.
