Alpheus Spring Packard (1839-1905)

"As there is in each individual a youth, manhood and old age, so species and order rise, culminate and decline, as nations have arisen, reached a maximum of development and decayed." (1886)

Entomologist and invertebrate zoologist. A leading advocate of neo-Lamarckism along with Cope and Hyatt, he coined the term "neo-Lamarckism" itself in 1885. Argued for orthogenetic evolutionary patterns that paralleled ontogeny.
