Visiting NCEAS

Planning your Visit

NCEAS is located in beautiful downtown Santa Barbara, about 10 miles south of the UC Santa Barbara campus. In July of 2021 we moved to our new building at 1021 Anacapa Street where we lease the first and third floors. This updated facility has everything we need for facilitating synthesis science, hosting working groups, running a master's program, and more! NCEAS is conveniently located near local coffee shops, restaurants, and transportation - by bus from UCSB you can take the 24x line to the downtown transit center, which is a five minute walk to our building. For those flying to Santa Barbara, the airport has direct flights from Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Oakland, Phoenix, Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, and Seattle. The Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner also has a downtown Santa Barbara stop that is one mile from NCEAS.

  • Land Acknowledgement

We acknowledge the Chumash Peoples, who are the environmental stewards of the land on which NCEAS is located. We pay our respects to the Chumash Peoples, and their Elders, past present, and future, who call this place their home. We acknowledge that this land on which we live and work are the traditional homelands of Indigenous peoples, including the Chumash Peoples. This land today is the result of the erasures and exclusions of Indigenous peoples. As we come together to bring awareness to issues of equity and justice, we recognize that the Chumash people, and so many other Indigenous people, are still fighting to dismantle the legacies of settler colonialism in their tribal territories. As we continue to work towards diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in data science, we strive to prioritize Indigenous-data sovereignty and self-determination.
