butterfly morpho logoNCEAS is excited to announce the launch of our new Morpho Initiative on April 4, 2022! Morpho is an applied environmental science initiative that convenes working groups consisting of government agency, NGO, tribal, and academic researchers to develop and accelerate science in the service of environmental management. The work of these teams will be enhanced by hands-on training in the cutting edge data science and management skills that are most relevant to both the near- and long-term challenges being tackled. Through this approach, Morpho aims to advance necessary skills while developing the science results that can inform solutions to urgent issues facing our changing planet - from wildfires to biodiversity loss and climate change.

NCEAS Director, Ben Halpern notes that "Morpho is a culmination of over a decade of experience at NCEAS developing and honing the working group model to best enable researchers to use synthesis to accelerate discoveries that can inform transformative solutions to pressing environmental problems. We are really excited to launch this Initiative and see the outcomes that emerge from it."

The Morpho Initiative's first call for proposals seeks to recruit 2-3 multidimensional teams funded at approximately $75,000 - $150,000 across 2-years to share data and work collaboratively to accelerate science and inform decision making.

Proposals for the first round of working group funding are due June 1, 2022, 5:00 p.m. PDT.
